Frequently asked questions

What does a pass mean?
The account number's built-in check digit is consistent with the bank's method, so it is very unlikely to contain a typo. It does not confirm the account is open.
Why does it sometimes say the method is not covered?
German banks use many different check-digit methods. The common ones are supported; for the rest the tool says so honestly rather than guessing a result.
Does this work for non-German accounts?
Not yet — account-number check digits are country specific. German accounts are covered; the IBAN validator works for every country.
